Defending champions join the top 5

Syracuse, NY – For the second week in a row, a new team appears in the top five of the Section III girls lacrosse power rankings.

After knocking off Marcellus and Watertown IHC, defending Section III Class C champion Indian River moved from No. 7 to No. 4 in this week’s rankings.

Cicero-North Syracuse is still at No. 1, Skaneateles moved up from No. 4 to No. 2, South Jefferson comes in at No. 3 and Westhill rounds out the top five at No. 5.

The rest of the top 10 consists of Christian Brothers Academy, Marcellus, Fulton, West Genesee and Watertown.

Jamesville-DeWitt made one of the biggest jumps this week and finds itself just outside the top 10. After winning three games since the last poll, the Red Rams have moved up six spots from No. 17 to No. 11. The jump came from the Free Academy of Rome, which went from No. 29 to No. 22.

Syracuse City/Solvay fell the furthest this week, from number 11 to number 18.

Unlike our weekly poll that includes votes from several reporters, the Power Rankings ranks all teams, regardless of class, solely based on a formula that takes into account win-loss record, goal difference, class of opponents and more.

We will publish updated rankings every week on Wednesday until the end of the season.
