Am lost for words! KL Rahul numb after Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma Blitzkrieg

KL Rahul was at a loss for words after Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma’s blitzkrieg-hitting helped Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 10 wickets in their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The LSG skipper said he had no words to describe the batting they had just witnessed, adding that everything seemed to hit the middle of the bats of the SRH openers.

“I’m out of words. We’ve seen this kind of percussion on TV. But this is unreal hitting. Everything seemed to find the center of the bat. Kudos for their skills. They have worked hard on their six-hitting skills,” KL Rahul said after the match.

KL also added that the pitch didn’t change much and the only way to stop batsmen coming in with this mentality was to pick wickets in the powerplay, which they didn’t do.

“They didn’t give us a chance to know what the pitch was playing in the second innings. It was hard to stop them when they teed off from ball one,” he said.

Head (89 not out, 30b) and Abhishek (75 not out, 28b) bombarded LSG bowlers for their stance for the opening wicket and raced past the target of 166 in just 9.4 overs.

Earlier, Ayush Badoni’s unbeaten fifty took LSG to 165 for four on a slow delivery. For Lucknow Super Giants, Badoni (55 not out) and Pooran (48 not out) played handy knocks. Pooran and Badoni added 99 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket for SRH.

KL accepted that LSG were 40-50 runs short but added that Pooran and Badoni batted well to take them to 166.

“Once you are on the losing side, there are questions about the decisions made. We were 40-50 runs short. When we lost wickets in the powerplay, we couldn’t get momentum,” KL said.
