Five baseball teams and five softball teams reach the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS

Five area baseball teams and five area softball teams earned victories Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs.

Noah Stead hit a three-run home run to spark a six-run fifth inning Western lake came from behind to defeat host West Torrance 6-3 in a Division 2 second-round baseball game.

Andrew Habermann allowed four baserunners and two unearned runs in five innings, striking out six. Nate Johnson reached base four times, going 2 for 2 with two walks, and Kaden Youmans was 2 for 4 for the Warriors (26-4), who visit Arcadia in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Greg Lareva hit a two-run double with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and Tanner Stotts came out of the bullpen to record the save when Moorpark came from behind to edge host Valencia, 4-3, in the second round of Division 2.

Jacob Shannon-Wilkerson went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Cameron Johnson picked up the win with 1.1 innings of shutout relief. Derek Nickels started for the Musketeers and allowed just two earned runs and two hits in 4.2 innings. Moorpark (17-10-1) will host Crean Lutheran in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Justin Frohn pitched six shutout innings and allowed just three hits, and his teammates backed him up with a six-run fifth inning when Newbury Park defeated second-seeded Fontana-Summit 8-0 in the second round of Division 3.

Cole Munyon was 3 for 3 with two runs, Luke Medhurst was 3 for 4 and Cade Falsken was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs to lead the Panthers’ 11-hit attack. Newbury Park (17-12) will host Irvine-Beckham in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Tommy Goodin was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and top-seeded Boston Bateman walked three and hit a two-run home run Camarillo outlasted host Murrietta Valley 6-4 in the second round of Division 4.

Trotter Enright and Blaise Meylemans also had two hits each and Nick Tostado allowed three earned runs over six innings to earn the win as the Scorpions (21-5) advanced to host Cerritos in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Rio Mesa scored two runs in the top of the seventh to extend the game, but host Ontario Christian responded with a walk-off sacrifice fly to eliminate the Spartans 7-6 in the second round of Division 4.

Damien Valdez was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Alec Fontyn, Gavin Samora and Daniel Banuelos each went 2 for 4 as Rio Mesa (17-11-1) had 12 hits.

Devon Wilkes allowed three hits in seven innings on the mound as Pacifica defeated host Whittier Christian 3-1 in the second round of Division 5.

Dario Navarro was 2 for 4 with a run scored, Sal Lopez was 2 for 4 and Jordyn Gonzalez and JJ Carmona had RBI singles for the Tritons (17-11-1), who will host Riverside Prep in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Ricky Estrada threw more than seven strong innings, but struckout five St. Bonaventure fell 4-2 to visiting Rancho Mirage in eight innings in the second round of Division 6. Max Peters and Luc Beauchemin each scored two hits for the Seraphs (14-14-1).

Despite three goals from Luis Cervantes, Hueneme fell 13-4 to visiting Buena Park in the second round of Division 7.

Softball

Terrianna Kelley hit a three-run home run, Kami Guthrie went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Riley McCoy went 2 for 2 with two walks, and Sienna Reynolds struck out nine in seven innings. Oak Christian defeated host Los Alamitos 5-1 in the first round of the Division 1 softball playoffs.

The Lions (22-4) will host second seed Garden Grove-Pacifica in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Camarillo was blown out 11-0 by CalHiSports.com at Anaheim-Canyon, the No. 5-ranked team in the state, in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs. The Coastal Canyon League champion finished its season at 20- 7.

Jasmine Reyes was 4 for 4 with two RBIs and struck out 11 in the circle to push Rio Mesa to a 7-2 victory at Temple City in the second round of Division 2. The Spartans (24-5) host Gahr in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Mia Gomez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Amaya Del Omo, Rylee Redmond and Jayden Pollon also had two hits as Agoura scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to come from behind for a 9-5 victory over Upland in the second round of Division 3. The Chargers will host Charter Oak in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Rachel Godoy went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Azaria Aguilar allowed four hits and struck out eight in the circle as St. Bonaventure visiting Fillmore, 13-1, in a Division 5 second-round match at Ventura College.

Laura Lynch scored four runs and Hudson Ortiz had four RBIs for St. Bonaventure (20-2-1), where Linfield Christian will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Emma Estrella had two hits for Fillmore (15-7-2).

Freshman Ava DePew drove in all four runs, including a crucial three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning, to seize control Mercy Brethren to a 4-3 victory at Garden Grove in the second round of Division 5. Roxy Salazar struck out seven and allowed two earned runs to get the victory for the Lancers (18-3-1), who defeated Liberty in the quarterfinals on Thursday will receive.
