World number one Novak Djokovic needed medical attention after being hit on the head by a water bottle during the Italian Open. The incident happened after his second-round win against Frenchman Corentin Moutet on Friday, May 10. Djokovic was signing autographs after his easy 6-3 6-1 win against the lucky loser when he was hit on the head by the bottle. The Serb immediately grabbed his head and fell to his knees. He remained crouched on the ground for several seconds while staff rushed to his aid and was eventually helped off the field.

It was later revealed through the broadcaster’s footage that there was no malice in the incident. It turned out that a water bottle had slipped out of a spectator’s bag and unfortunately caught Djokovic, who was on his way to leave the field. Djokovic later announced on his social media that he was doing well and that he had applied an ice pack.

“Novak Djokovic was hit on the head by a water bottle while leaving Central Court at the end of his match while signing autographs for spectators,” the tournament said. a statement posted on social media.

“He has been given the appropriate medication and has already left the Foro Italico to return to his hotel.”

“Thank you for the concerned messages,” Djokovic wrote on the social media platform X. “This was an accident and I can rest well in the hotel with an ice pack. See you Sunday.”
