Golf battle between Bismarck Century, Minot North continues | News, sports, jobs

KARI GIBB/MDN Minot North junior Kasen Rostad tees off at the start of the Minot North Invitational played Friday at Vardon Golf Club.

Bismarck Century shot a 308 as a team to claim first place at the Minot North Invitational, while the host team shot a 319 for second place as the two teams continue a see-saw battle for top honors each week. Bismarck Legacy shot a 326 for third place of the day. Minot High as a team had a 338 for seventh place.

Minot North Sentinels placed second in the first golf meet this season, with Bismarck Century winning at the Bismarck Invitational on April 30 and repeating the order at the Minot High Invitational held three days later in Minot. At the Mandan Invitational on May 7, Minot North flipped the script and won with Century in second place as the two teams were tied 1, 2 this year.

The Sentinels were led by junior Kasen Rostad who recorded a 76 as the 1-seed, while Bennett Bartsch matched a 76 as the 2-seed for Minot North. Both players were tied for fourth place in the overall rankings. Fellow junior Tyler Bast recorded an 81 for the day, while sophomores Walter Langhans and Kyler Weishaar scored 86 and 87, respectively. Minot North eighth-grader Teegan Dangel rounded out the team with a 95 on the home course.

Century senior Aidan Kaufman shot an even-par 72 on the leaderboard, while sophomore Quin Shillingstad of Bismarck St. Mary’s and junior Hunter Gegelman of Jamestown each recorded a 74 for the day to tie for second place.

Minot High eighth-grader Parker Argent led the way for the Magicians with a 77 that was good enough for a sixth overall tie in the rankings, while freshman Easton Bradley posted an 84 on the day. Sophomore Mattson Burckhard posted a 94 as the third seed, while freshman Nathan Peterson and junior Carter Dunstan each posted 92 for the day.

On that day, 11 golfers shot a 79 or less at Vardon Golf Club. The next meeting for the teams is today, May 11, at the TMCHS Invitational at the Garden Gate Golf Course in Dunseith. The next invitational will take place on Tuesday, May 14, hosted by St. Mary’s in Hawktree, followed by the Dickinson Invitational on Friday, May 17 at Heart River Golf Course.

The Class A West Region meet will take place at Jamestown Country Club on Wednesday, May 29, while the 2024 NDHSAA Class A Boys Golf State Tournament, June 4-5, will be played at Kings Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks.
