Rumor Roundup: The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes, AEW suspension, WWE excessive pricing, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding professional wrestling is a favorite pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors coming out of the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that: rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track the accuracy of rumors in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back, which you can find here. Remember: take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the day:

  • This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter says Cody Rhodes vs. The Rock is currently scheduled to compete at WrestleMania 41 next year. Dwayne Johnson’s idea is to make it the WWE Championship vs. The People’s Championship, although there’s no guarantee that Cody will still be the WWE Champion at that point.
  • The Observer also claims that Sammy Guevara’s AEW suspension is over. “However, there is no word on when he will be cycled back into the storylines. Things have been pitched, but nothing confirmed.
  • During an interview with Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics and John Pollock of POST Wrestling, French journalist Lucas Charpiot said that when he asked Paul Levesque about Drew Gulak’s departure from WWE during the post-show press conference of Backlash, there was a negative response from the people in the room. “Like I was attacking their leader.” A WWE PR person then said directly to him, “What a stupid thing to do.”
  • F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer says next month’s Clash at the Castle event in Glasgow, Scotland will break Backlash’s record for the largest gate in WWE history for an arena show. That’s mainly because “the lowest ticket price is $419,” which is “the most expensive entry price for a show in the company’s history.” BBC interviewed several WWE fans there who will not attend the event because of these “excessive” ticket prices.

  • In Ronda Rousey’s new memoir Our struggleShe said there was often tension backstage between Vince McMahon and Triple H during her 2022 WWE run. Whenever Triple H made a change to the show, it was taken to Vince and he changed it back. She also said that McMahon blamed John Laurinaitis when the hush money sex scandal broke.
  • Fightful Select indicated that AEW has no plans to continue teaming Big Bill with Ricky Starks.

  • Randy Orton confirmed to Jazzys World TV that he once ripped a urinal off the wall with his bare hands for Cody Rhodes in South Africa. Orton and Rhodes were “gone long before anyone knew who did it.” Randy said, “There was a little flooding…I didn’t get in any trouble though, so that’s all that matters.”
