Lions fall to Broncos in Heartbreaker

LOS ANGELES – The Lions lost 6-5 to Santa Clara on Friday evening in Santa Clara, California.

LMU built a five-run lead before the Broncos came back for six runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Lions.

Owen Hackman rode through six shutout innings and extended his scoreless inning streak to 14. He has allowed just one run in his last three starts, totaling 19 innings.

Brendan Bobo launched his twelfth home run of the season to put the Lions on the board in the third inning. It was his third match in a row with one homer and he is now tied with the team leader. He added an RBI single in the seventh.

Devan Ornelas also launched a no-doubter in the fourth to extend the Lions lead. Ornelas crushed homer number three on the first pitch he saw in his second at-bat. He zoomed around the bases to give the Lions a 4-0 lead. He added a double and scoredscored the fifth point of the game for the Lions.

The Lions remains tied for sixth place in the WCC with five games remaining. The Lions need to win one more game than Pepperdine to finish ahead of the Waves due to the Waves’ advantage in the season series.
