Csk Vs Rr: IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals aim to dent Chennai Super Kings’ dreams of finishing in top four | Cricket news

NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings, currently fourth in the standings with 12 points from 12 matches, face a crucial match against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. The defeat against Gujarat Titans has put immense pressure on CSK, and they now need to win the remaining two matches to secure a spot in the play-offs. The Royals, despite being second with 16 points, are reeling from back-to-back defeats against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.

CSK’s top order of Ajinkya Rahane, Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to perform against GT and they will be keen to regain their form in Chepauk. Ravindra may get another chance, but it could be a defining moment for him.

The recent performances of Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali have been encouraging but Shivam Dube, who has been the backbone of CSK this season, has been quiet since his selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He has two reasons for performing well: to justify his World Cup selection and to help his team reach the play-offs.

Tushar Deshpande and Shardul Thakur were impressed with their bowling against GT and the Chennai bowlers are expected to deliver in this home series. The low amount of dew during this afternoon’s clash could benefit the CSK spinners.

Rajasthan Royals, desperate to end their losing streak, couldn’t have asked for a better opponent than an unstable CSK. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has not been at his best this season, will be determined to prove his worth before heading to America for the T20 World Cup. Captain Samson, also heading to the World Cup, will be under scrutiny and will need more support from Riyan Parag, Shubham Dubey and Rovman Powell.

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took three wickets against DC, will relish the opportunity to perform on his home track and the presence of experienced Yuzvendra Chahal will further strengthen the RR bowling unit. Avesh Khan, despite his unimpressive performance against Delhi, could get another chance to gain confidence before traveling to the World Cup as a reserve.
