Nisha Dahiya books India’s fifth Olympic spot in Paris in wrestling!

Nisha Dahiya secured her place as the fifth Indian female wrestler to qualify for the Paris Olympics by triumphing over Alexandra Anghel of Romania in the 68kg semi-finals at the World Olympic Qualifiers to be held on Friday. This achievement marks the first time that India will be represented by five female wrestlers at the prestigious event.

This performance follows a disappointing performance from all six Greco-Roman wrestlers the previous day. In a remarkable display of skill, Nisha, a bronze medalist at the U-23 World Championships and a silver medalist at the Asian Championships last year defeated Anghel 8-4 to advance to the final, securing another Olympic place for India.

This milestone marks the first occasion where five Indian women wrestlers will participate in the Olympic Games.

In her fight against Anghel, Nisha took the lead with an 8-0 lead thanks to a series of aggressive maneuvers in the early going. She started with a right leg strike, executed a successful takedown, quickly followed by a two-pointer, and took further advantage by rolling her opponent, giving her a commanding 6-0 lead. At the end of the first period, Nisha had built an insurmountable 8-0 lead.

Initially, she performed a takedown, but then successfully performed another scoring move. Towards the end of the period, Anghel tried to make a decisive move, attempting to pin Nisha for a ‘trap’, but Nisha managed to escape and avoid the danger. Nisha expertly defended her lead in the final 55 seconds of the match.
