The Brazil boss explains that he rejected Casemiro from the Copa America squad

Brazilian manager Dorival Junior has explained his decision to leave Casemiro out of the Brazil squad for this summer’s Copa America.

It comes as a big surprise because Casemiro wore the Brazil captaincy until recently. Now manager Dorival Jr has opted to leave him out of the Brazil squad for the upcoming Copa America.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the Brazilian manager said (via Manchester Evening News): “As for Casemiro, he deserves respect from all of us. Three months ago I had a conversation with him in Manchester and explained what was on my mind at that moment, about the situation of him and his team, and what I needed. But just because he wasn’t called up this time doesn’t mean he’s ruled out in any way (for future call-ups).

“He knows exactly what I think of him and that’s the most important thing. Tomorrow I will talk to him again and outline what I think can happen in the future, because he is a player who deserves attention, affection and respect. We continue to believe in a player of his level.”

It is worth noting that Dorival is not ruling out future call-ups for Casemiro.

However, I don’t think Casemiro needs to feel like he’s struggling as his performance level has dropped significantly over the past year.

Casemiro has struggled with the pace of the Premier League this season and looks set to leave Old Trafford, with interest from Saudi Arabia.

Moving his career to the Middle East will not do Casemiro’s international career any good. Or has the chance for even more international tournaments already slipped through Casemiro’s fingers?

Only time will tell, but it’s sad to see a top player decline.
