They Said It: Top Quotes from Predators Locker Cleanout Day

There’s no way around it: the Nashville Predators would rather play hockey now.

When the team gathered at 501 Broadway on Tuesday to conduct exit interviews and clear out lockers before going their separate ways for the summer, it all became crystal clear.

No one in the Predators camp hid the sting of a decisive shutout loss in Game 6 last week, nor did they hide the disappointment knowing that their first-round matchup against the Vancouver Canucks could have just as easily gone the other way can go.

Still, the Predators couldn’t deny that there were just as many – if not more – reasons to keep their chin up and look to next season with optimism.

For example, they knew that they had performed well above expectations, that reaching the playoffs was a victory in itself – a victory that was not easy.

They knew that even though their season started with a shaky 5-10-0 start, they reached April in step with Head Coach Andrew Brunette’s blisteringly fast system, their electrifying 18-game winning streak or the seemingly countless career achievements across the lineup , which is sufficient evidence.

Although they would much rather still compete for the Cup, the Predators know that when they return to action in October, they will be even stronger.

Below are some of the key quotes from the Predators’ media availability on Tuesday:

Roman Josi on the team’s performance this season:

“Just coming into this year, there were so many unknowns. We had a new coach, a new general manager, a lot of new players, and obviously we didn’t get much credit from outside. But our goal was always to make the play-offs as a team, and that wasn’t easy. We started 5-10-0, we were pretty inconsistent early on and had our ups and downs, but we found a way to come together as a team. Bruno believed in our team, believed in the system, and we kept playing the same way, we kept playing hard. And it was pretty cool to see the whole process, to see guys come together like that and ultimately make the playoffs and compete in the first round.
