Head-Abhishek breaks records, Bhuvi turns back the years and Badoni’s 50 is in vain

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. InsideSport brings you the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down a target of 166 in just 9.4 overs! Yes, you read that correctly. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head scored almost 3 points per ball to take their side home. The two left-handers have made a habit of destroying the bowling line-ups and dreams of opposition fans during the IPL 2024 as they pile on the pain.

On what looked like a tricky pitch when the Lucknow Super Giants were playing, the Pat Cummins-led side presented their captain with a perfect birthday present by ending the match in just 58 balls. In addition to an early flight home, they also received a huge boost in the points table as they climbed to third place.

Is everything not going well in the LSG camp?

After the beating, KL Rahul admitted that they were finished and gave Head and Abhishek their flowers. However, it seemed like an LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was not too happy with his skipper or the team. He was seen having a long animated conversation with Rahul after the match, and he appeared to be giving the wicketkeeper-opener an earful.

Head & Abhishek are dropping records like flies

The dynamic duo broke several records on the stand of 167 people. Thanks to their fireworks, SRH became the first team to chase a target of more than 100 in less than 10 overs and broke their own record for most runs scored in the first 10 overs of an IPL match (previously 158). Travis Head broke his own record for the highest strike rate after playing 30 balls (296.66), and Head now also holds the record for the highest strike rate in the IPL for anyone who has scored more than 500 runs.

Mumbai Indians are out of IPL 2024

The Lucknow Super Giants were not the only team to lose today. Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians suffered a tougher loss as they are the first team to officially exit the IPL 2024. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s huge win means MI is no longer in the reckoning, and Hardik’s first stint as Mumbai’s captain comes to a premature end.

Bhuvi is back!

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was at his best today. In a match where all LSG bowlers scored more than 14.5 runs per over, Bhuvi finished with figures of 4-0-12-2. Apart from him, only Pat Cummins managed to get a wicket for SRH, scoring 47 runs in his quota of four overs. He gave away just 7 runs for 2 wickets in the powerplay and then returned at the end of the 18th over and prevented Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni from dismissing.

Unlucky Samson is punished

Sanju Samson paid for his indiscretion. After arguing with the on-field umpire following his controversial dismissal, the Rajasthan Royals captain has been fined 30% of match fees. Samson was involved in a controversial incident against the Delhi Capitals and for showing his dissent, he has been punished by the BCCI.

Badoni, the only shining light of LSG?

Ayush Badoni’s performance could be the only good thing that could happen to LSG against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 24-year-old was their highest run-scorer and only half-centurion in a match where their batters and bowlers both failed. Nicholas Pooran might have achieved a slightly better success rate, but it was Badoni who gave Pooran time to settle as he continued chipping to take the tally to 166.
