Swenda’s two-out three-run double in ninth rally baseball to win at Delaware State

Dover, Del. — Anthony Swenda hit a bases clearing three-run double with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to rally the UMBC Baseball team past host Delaware State 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon.

Swenda also homered, while Dawson Baracani And Dirk Paris had three hit games each. Baracani had a pair of RBI and Paris, Luke Trythal And Justin Taylor each added its own RBI.

Zak Kelly worked the final 1.2 innings to earn his first career victory Joe Pucek was solid in his third start of the season, allowing just two runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

Nico Ong, Matt Ryan And Danny Wyatt also had hits for the Dawgs.

How it happened:

  • Swenda got UMBC on the board with a solo homer in the second
  • In the third, Paris singled, stole second base and scored on a Baracani double to make it 2-0
  • The Retrievers made it 4-0 in the fourth on an RBI double by Trythall and an RBI single by Paris
  • The Hornets scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-4 lead
  • UMBC got one run back in the top of the seventh on a Bracani RBI single, scoring Trythall
  • However, DSU would make it 8-5 in the eighth
  • Paris, Ong and Baracani all singled with one out to load the bases
  • Taylor would belt an infield single to make it 8-6
  • After a flyout brought UMBC to the final out, Swenda cleared the bases with his big double
  • The hosts put runners on the corners with two outs in the ninth, byt Ryan made an incredible scoop and grounded out to end the game

The Retrievers travel to Binghamton this weekend for a three-game series
