Player ratings: Real Madrid 2 – 1 Bayern Munich; 2024 UEFA Champions League semi-final

Full match player ratings below:

Andriy Lunin-7: Did everything he had to do that night, making four saves, two from inside the penalty area and a successful claim late in the evening to earn the win.

Dani Carvajal – 7.5: The Real Madrid academy candidate will prepare for his sixth Champions League final! Well defended against Gnarby, Musiala and Davies.

Rudiger-8.5: Another stone-walled defensive performance in the center of Madrid’s backline. Fight for every ball as if it were his last. Provided the assist for Joselu’s game-winner, finding himself in the penalty area and swinging a left-footed cross towards the Bayern goal.

Nacho-7.5: Barely put a foot wrong the entire match. Outscored Sane on what would have been a Bayern break in the first half to level the score. Set up the winning goal by feeding Rudiger, who then found Joselu.

Ferland Mendy-7: Leroy Sane was Bayern’s biggest threat over two legs and the Frenchman managed the game in the second leg. It was Ferland Mendy who was the only defender in a 3 v 1 situation late in the match and his defense in that order kept Madrid in the match.

Tchouameni-6: Had to cover a lot of ground when Bayern wanted to counter. Not the midfielder’s best game, but he kept things simple in possession and helped Madrid maintain control for large parts of the game.

Fede Valverde-6: Like Tchouameni, he was not at his best but seemed to benefit from his athleticism when paired with Pavlovic.

Toni Kroos-9: Another masterclass from Toni Kroos in one of the biggest games of the season. A game high of 4 key passes, 112 touches, 95/101 completed passes, 18/20 long balls and numerous crucial toe pokes or defensive interceptions. Everything went through the feet of Toni Kroos – the heartbeat of this Madrid team.

Jude Bellingham – 6.5: His night will be remembered more for his defensive work and ruthless work rate than for his attacking contribution. Make some well-timed challenges just outside Madrid’s penalty area to deny Bayern a scoring opportunity.

Rodrygo-5: Tough evening for the Brazilian, who missed two big chances, each created by his compatriot Vini JR.

Vinicius Junior-9: Man of the match. Next to Toni Kroos the best player on the field. The Brazilian was ruthless. Completed 7 dribbles, most of them against Kimmich and De Ligt. Did everything he could to get his beloved Madrid over the finish line and to the final. Would have scored a few goals himself if Neuer hadn’t made some heroic saves. It was one such save on a Vinicius shot that trickled out of the ball and led to Joselu’s equalizer. The Brazilian always performs on the biggest stage and the biggest nights.

Luka Modric—7.5: Brought the needed energy in replacing Kroos and increased the urgency and improved the rhythm of Madrid’s play late in the second half to turn the tide. Burst a lung in the final minutes of the match to come back and eliminate Bayern on a 3 on 1 counter.

Eduardo Camavinga-6.5: A double substitution next to Modric to freshen up the Madrid midfield and try to turn the game around.

Joselu-9: One of the most beautiful evenings of Joselu’s life. A night he will never forget. A goal in the 88th minute to equalize and two minutes later a stoppage time goal to send Madrid to Wembley for their 15th European Cup final. Historical.

Brahim Diaz – N/A: Taken with Joselu for the last 10 minutes of the match.

Eder Militao — N/A: He was brought on in the 100th minute to add a layer of defense and burn some time off the clock.
