Fresh off the red carpet, Korda looks to golf glory – Golf Australia Magazine – The Women’s Game

The 25-year-old has won five consecutive tournament starts in a row. She has the No. 1 ranking in the world, along with the 2024 lead in revenue, scoring average and points for the Player of the Year award.

And what’s more, earlier this week she was able to fulfill a childhood dream by walking the red carpet at the Met Gala.

Now Korda will try to become the first woman to win six consecutive LPGA events when play in the Founders Cup kicks off Thursday at Upper Montclair Country Club in suburban New York.

“To be honest, I didn’t think about it at all because I went through so much in those two weeks,” said Korda, who hasn’t played since winning the Chevron Championship in Texas.

“Then, of course, I had the Met on Monday, so I didn’t have much time to think about it.”

In winning her second career major two weeks ago, Korda tied Hall of Famers Annika Sorenstam (2004-05) and Nancy Lopez (1978) for most consecutive tournament wins. Byron Nelson is golf’s all-time record holder with eleven straight wins in 1945.

The normally reserved Korda insisted she doesn’t think that far ahead, noting that it can lead down a deep rabbit hole.

“I put it on everyone. It’s just, I mean, this is me. This is me, with my visor on, with golf gear on. This is my comfort zone. It was really fun to step outside my comfort zone and do something do like that.” – Nelly Korda.

The winning streak got an unexpected boost this week when she received an invite to the Met Gala.

“It was so, so crazy,” she said. “You’re standing in line to get on the carpet and it’s like you see all these people that you normally see on TV shows or movies, and they’re like famous singers and you’re under the impression.

“For me, this is the most fun to watch people. I just sat quietly looking at everyone’s dresses.”

Korda was given a number of Oscar de la Renta dresses to try on, and she apparently opted for a long-sleeved dress.

Twenty minutes before she walked the carpet, she had a golf moment, like when the wind picks up before she heads to the green. The 9 iron became a pitching wedge.

“I saw this amazing red dress and I changed my whole look probably 20 minutes before I started getting ready,” Korda said.

“I put it on everyone. It’s just, I mean, this is me. This is me, with my visor on, with golf gear on. This is my comfort zone. It was really fun to step outside my comfort zone and do something do like that.”

However, it was neat and like everything Korda has done on the golf course, it was a perfect choice.

“I never thought I would ever be able to attend the Met Gala,” Korda said.

“As a girl I saw it growing up and was just in awe of all the dresses. Being on the red or green carpet was a dream come true.”
