Three Big Twelve women’s golf teams advance to the NCAA Championship

Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas, along with K-State’s Carla Bernat, punched tickets to the 2024 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship after Wednesday’s final round of regional play. These teams finished in the top five in their respective regions to advance to the championship.

No. 8 seed Oklahoma State placed second in the East Lansing Regional with a total score of 859 (-5). The Cowgirls entered Wednesday’s final round tied for seventh place, scoring the round’s lowest 297 (-9) to advance to their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance. Maddison Hinson-Tolchard took third place, while her teammate Marta Silchenko finished in seventh place on the leaderboard.

No. 2 seed Texas secured a second-place finish in the Bermuda Run (NC) Regional, just one stroke shy of tying for first place. The Longhorns shot 20-under 844 through the three rounds, posting the program’s best 54-hole performance in an NCAA event. The team had two golfers finish in the top 10: Hsin Chun Liao (T5) and Farah O’Keefe (T10). As hosts of this year’s NCAA Championship, the team will be the 32ndNL overall and eighth championship competition in a row.

Baylor, ranked No. 7, earned a third-place finish (872, +8) at the Las Vegas Regional. The Bears secured their spot by scoring the final round’s lowest 294 (+6) after finishing rounds one and two in fifth place. Ashleen Kaur and Sera Hasegawa tied for fourth place, marking the second time in three seasons that multiple golfers finished in the top 5. Baylor will make its fourth straight NCAA Championship appearance.

K-State’s Carla Bernat advanced as the highest-ranked individual golfer not part of an advancing team at the Bryan Regional after finishing in third place with a final score of 209 (-7). The junior is the second Wildcat to reach the NCAA championship and the first to compete in 21 years.

UCF, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas and Oklahoma were other Big 12 programs participating in regional plays.

The 2024 NCAA DI Women’s Golf Championship will be held May 17-22 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
