Celtics’ Jaylen Brown had a perfect one-liner about Derrick White after the win

The Boston Celtics opened Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals in Boston on Tuesday night with an emphatic 120-95 home victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Celtics guard Derrick White continued his torrid postseason stretch offensively, scoring 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor. He hit seven of his 12 three-point attempts and added five assists.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown, who led Boston with 32 points, was asked after the game about White’s impact.

“If you don’t know Derrick White, you can get to know him better,” Brown said. ‘That man played football and has only just started. A great game from him tonight.”

White’s impact this postseason has been seismic, and was once again evident in his play Tuesday night. With Brown playing well, the Celtics were looking for a second viable scoring opportunity as Jayson Tatum had an off night shooting the ball while Kristaps Porziņģis remains out of the lineup with a calf injury.

White provided plenty of offense alongside Brown and played good defense as the Celtics pulled away in the second half for an important first win of the series.

The Celtics and Cavaliers are back in action on Thursday night for Game 2 at TD Garden.
