4A/3A baseball: Hotchkiss, Gill have hot bats as Battle Ground beats Decatur 10-0 in bi-district playoffs

Jackson Hotchkiss and James Gill both had perfect days at the plate and Ethan Adams pitched six shutout innings as the Battle Ground baseball team defeated Decatur of Federal Way 10-0 on Wednesday as the Tigers stayed alive in the 4A bi-district tournament.

The Tigers now have two chances on Saturday to get one win and clinch a state berth. The first game will be against Kentwood at Lincoln High School in Tacoma. If the Tigers lose that game, they will play the loser of Rogers-Puyallup and Kentridge later on Saturday.

Gill continued his hot hitting, going 2 for 2 with a walk and hitting his second home run in as many days. His two-run homer in the first inning gave Battle Ground an early 3-0 lead.

Gill also added a double and a sacrifice fly to drive in five runs.

Hotchkiss went 4 for 4 with two runs and three RBI.

Adams gave up three hits and struckout three in six innings, as Battle Ground won after six innings on the 10-run rule.

CAPITAL 11, PRAIRIE 10 — The Falcons had the bases loaded with just one out, but they couldn’t score another run in a furious seventh-inning rally and fell to a losers’ away game in the 3A bi-district tournament.

Capital of Olympia took an 11-6 lead in the seventh. Nolan Nunn narrowed the deficit to 11-7 with an RBI double. Cam McCray then scored on a wild pitch to make it 11-8.

Nate Merritt and Jake Drogos walked with the bases loaded, making it 11-10.

Then, Capital got the final two outs on a shallow fly ball to center and a strikeout.

AUBURN MOUNTAINVIEW 1, EVERGREEN 0 — Caden Shoul pitched a no-hitter against the Plainsmen in a losers’ game in the 3A bi-district tournament.

Will Goth also pitched a great game for Evergreen, allowing only three hits and walking none.

The Plainsmen walked six against Shoul, but Shoul retired 14 of the last 15 batters he faced.
