Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championships in Calgary, Alberta. On Tuesday, Canada defeated the Czech Republic 5-1. With the win, Canada improved to a record of three wins and zero losses, having previously defeated Japan 19-0 and Italy 10-0.

Three Canadians scored in the game. Captain Tyler McGregor of Forest, Ontario and James Dunn of Wallacetown, Ontario each scored twice, while the other Canadian scorer was Liam Hickey of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Meanwhile, five Canadians had a multi-point game. In addition to McGregor and Dunn who each had two goals, Hickey had one goal and two assists for three points, Auren Halbert of Calgary, Alberta had two assists and Dominic Cozzolino of Kitchener, Ontario had three assists.

Canadian head coach Russ Herrington had high praise for McGregor during his post-match press conference.

“Well, when you talk about someone who is committed to being an elite athlete, Tyler sets the standard for our group. I think it’s nice to see this pay off for him in terms of his on-ice performance. I think one of the things that Tyler has done really well this year is learning to regulate his emotions and find that level where he is intense but still relaxed and balanced on the ice.

Canada will now play China in one of the two semi-finals. The United States will play the Czech Republic in the other semifinal.
