Spartans host a higher belt rating ceremony

Spartans Karate members earned their promotions to several higher belt levels during the First Assessment of 2024, held at AGS Church Carletonville on May 4.

The inspection took place under the watchful eye of Shihan Kruben Pillay, sixth dan black belt.

All members were put through their paces for a day and tested on their karate skills. When they successfully proved all their skills in the basics, kata and kumite, they were ranked higher.

Spartans PR officer Martin Venter said: “They all train regularly in the dojos which have been in existence for more than 30 years. The dojos were founded in Westonaria and Carletonville by Pillay in 1989 and 2018 respectively, and in Winchester Hills by sensei Enzo Pillay in 2023.”

The karate clubs have now become part of the community. It helps keep the children focused and disciplined and gives them the ability to defend themselves.

“Karate also promotes self-confidence, which is a tool in today’s social media world,” Venter said.

Spartans Karate strives to develop all its members to the highest possible level and teach members from the age of five to adults.
