St. Louis River Walleye Management Meeting

SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) – An informational public meeting will be held Thursday to discuss walleye management in the St. Louis River and the western region of Lake Superior.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will host the meeting at the Barker’s Island Inn at 6 p.m.

The walleye population will be discussed prior to the St. Louis River walleye season opener on Saturday.

The St. Louis River fishery is jointly managed by the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin and is home to the largest population of walleye in Lake Superior.

Under current regulations, walleye fishermen in the river and estuary are subject to different rules than those fishing on Lake Superior.

The DNR hopes to merge regulations to find a common framework that is easy to understand and maintains objectives for the fishery.
