SLC lawmakers honor Hammond Central girls basketball for back-to-back state championships

CANTON – St. Lawrence County lawmakers honored the Hammond Central School girls basketball team for capturing the NYSPHSAA championship title, their second consecutive Class D title in New York State.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you all. This is my second year as chairman and the second year I have seen you all. We really get to know each other,” joked chairman David Forsythe.

Forsythe praised the players for their determination and dedication and said the players’ friends and family are very proud of them.

The Red Devils won their second consecutive championship by defeating Northville in a hard-fought 54-34 victory this season. The championship was the fourth in school history.

“The Red Devils showed no weakness on the field and had a great season, playing every game athletically, with intensity and with the mentality of a championship team, finishing their season with a 24-3 record,” the lawmakers said.

Head coach Alyssa Crosby and assistant coaches John Arquiett and Katina Dillon, the scholar athletes, were on the verge of an incredible performance that demonstrated the commitment, dedication and commitment to a team sport with a desire to succeed, lawmakers said.

“St. Lawrence County is extremely proud of the team’s achievements as student athletes for dedicating time and energy to providing a selfless team effort, bringing honor and honor to their school, city and county. It is with great pride That the Council of Legislators recognize the exceptional performance of the Hammond Red Devil Girls’ Basketball Team and their coaches during an impressive and successful championship season,” the lawmakers said.
