Michael Jordan’s eldest born and NFL legend respond to Austin Rivers’ viral claim

A debate between the NBA and the NFL? Austin Rivers has once again turned the spotlight on himself. And this time not for a good reason. The former Minnesota Timberwolves guard has offended a lot of people with his latest comments about the NFL. He suggested that at least 30 NBA players could play football, while NFL players wouldn’t last in basketball. Recently, Michael Jordan’s eldest son, Jeffery Jordan, also took to social media to express his thoughts on the matter.

In an Instagram post sharing Rivers’ statement, Shannon Sharpe wrote a message showing his decision to choose silence over any comment. He wrote, “No further comment at this time.” In response to the NFL legend’s comment, Michael Jordan’s senior wrote: “He speaks for himself UNC.” Oops, that was a pretty harsh comment Jordan made to the basketball player. However, they were not the only ones who devastated Rivers.

Former NBA guard Earl Watson noted: “Until they get hit 😂.” Additionally, many NFL stars challenged Rivers to come to a field and give up just one hit. After looking at all the comments, Rivers also noted: “Yes, I am completely biased 😂.”

Previously, Rivers claimed in a conversation during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show: “I could take 30 players in the NBA right now and throw them in the NFL. You can’t put 30 NFL players in the NBA.”

That was quite a bold statement indeed. And as expected, the sports community is not silent about this. The eleven-year NBA veteran quickly got a reality check from Charles Barkley.

Does Charles Barkley agree with Austin Rivers?

While most NFL players disapproved of Rivers’ views, even NBA veterans disagreed with Rivers. Many took to social media to express their opinions about it. Some even criticized him. Philadelphia 76ers legend Barkley also shared the opinion with Rivers that many NBA players cannot play football.

After Game 2 between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers, Barkley took a moment to share his thoughts, saying: “Oh, I have to call Austin Rivers. Austin Rivers, you know I love you. We can’t play football.”

Former football defender JJ Watt wasn’t exactly kind with his words either. Watt took his X-handle and wrote: “You don’t have a job at the moment either, go try…” Rivers never played in the NFL and he no longer has a job in the NBA. The last time he played in the league was in the 2022-2023 season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is currently an NBA analyst for ESPN.

Constant comments from internet users and fans weigh on the question of whether NBA players can play football. Not to mention that the veterans have also disputed Rivers’ comment that football is a tough game. James Jones said: ‘Football is not an easy game, dog. That’s why a lot of basketball players when they step on the football field, they step right back on the basketball court because it’s not an easy game.”
