Pirate softball bombs OG in sectionals

OTTAWA __ The visiting Bluffton High School softball team crushed Ottawa-Glandorf 16-1 in the first round sectional Div. III action Wednesday May 8.

The Pirate girls improved to 2-7 with the big win. Bluffton advanced to the sectional final against top seed Parkway (18-3) on Friday at 5 p.m.

The section winner will advance to the Lima Bath district.

OG fell to 2-19 due to the loss.

The Pirates took the lead 5-1 after two innings. Bluffton then scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning to break the game open and win the five-inning game.

Emma Green doubled, had two singles and had two runs batted in. She also scored two points.


Lauren Bassett doubled twice, scored a run and drove in one run. Danielle Cross singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice. Faith Maple doubled, singled, scored a run and had one RBI.

Ashley Fleece scored three runs, singled in a run and stole two bases.

Karleigh Davis singled in two runs. Macy Schaadt singled and scored two runs. Olivia Hobensack contributed three RBI.

Both teams left six runners on base and committed three errors.

Bluffton out-hit OG 13-3 and walked seven.

Haelee Raye got the itchy win. She pitched five innings, allowing three hits and no earned runs. She struck out three and walked two.
