BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Medical Center at Bowling Green received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that maintains the standard of patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.

According to a release from Med Center Health, this national award celebrates Bowling Green Medical Center’s prioritization of patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors. The new figures mainly reflect performance during the height of the pandemic.

“This continued validation from the leading patient safety organization proves that the quality of care provided by the Medical Center at Bowling Green is exemplary,” said Brian Lowery, director of quality and performance excellence at Med Center Health. “Achieving this qualification requires a determined and coordinated effort from the medical staff, nursing, support staff, quality staff and administration. Processes in the organization that influence patient safety have been extensively reviewed to identify any opportunities for improvement. Med Center Health continually invests in technology, personnel and material resources to advance patient safety and the quality of care for our patients.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures that identify errors , accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems that hospitals have put in place to prevent harm.

“Everyone who works at The Medical Center at Bowling Green should be proud of this ‘A’ hospital safety rating,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level, and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Bowling Green Medical Center for its leadership, physicians, staff and volunteers for their deep concern for its patients and their safety.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital rating program based solely on the prevention of medical errors and patient harm in hospitals. The rating system is peer-reviewed, completely transparent and free to the public. The figures are updated twice a year, in the fall and spring.
