STUART HOGG has broken his silence after appearing in court charged with stalking and domestic violence.

The former Scotland rugby star, 31, was in the dock on Tuesday accused of tapping his wife’s communications and controlling her family life for SEVEN years.

He is also charged under section one of the Domestic Abuse Scotland Act, which alleges he engaged in conduct that was “abusive” towards his wife Gillian.

Hogg, who is now divorced from Gillian and dating Sky Sports presenter Leonna Mayor, also denied a third charge of breach of promise.

The disgraced former captain, who was smuggled out of the courtroom under a jacket in the back of his parents’ car, denies the charges. He was originally arrested in February this year.

He will stand trial on July 30 this year after Sheriff Derek O’Carroll granted Hogg bail.

Hogg attended Jedburgh Sheriff Court with his parents and was allowed to enter the courthouse through a side door – usually reserved for lawyers and court officials – to avoid cameras and members of the public.

He was then given access to the witness room where he could sit and wait for his call.

His attorney, Matt Patrick, entered a not guilty plea on Hogg’s behalf.

He has not spoken publicly since the court appearance until today, when he posted some words on his Instagram account and revealed he was playing golf.

Hogg shared a quote post to his Instagram Story this morning, the first time he has been outwardly active on social media since Tuesday.

The quote, attributed to Grey’s Anatomy character Meredith Gray, reads: “What’s broken can be fixed.

“What is hurt can be healed.

“No matter how dark it gets, the sun will rise again.”

Later in the day, Hogg was on the golf course with a good friend.

The rugby star took out the clubs and hit the fairways of his local golf course, Hawick Golf Club, with pal Euan Robson.

Hogg posted a photo of his friend teeing off on a hole, tagging the golf club itself in the post to let his followers know where he was.
