Chagrin Falls girls lacrosse defeated the NDCL Lions on May 3 at CS Harris Stadium.

Junior Emma Thatcher led the Tigers to a 5-1 victory, scoring two goals.

Afterwards, she said the Tigers were very good at moving the ball during their offensive attack, especially when they had to play a few players behind.

“I think moving the ball and really looking for our best option really helped,” Thatcher said.

Chagrin Falls Head Coach KC White said the Lion defense played zone and did an excellent job defending the Tigers offense. Above all, White said the NDCL goalkeeper played a great game.

With NDCL’s defense strong, Coach White said the coaching staff focused the Tiger offense on controlling possession.

“Once we knew it was going to be difficult to score the goals, controlling possession was something we felt like we had control over, so we tried to keep the ball as much as possible,” said Coach White .

Despite the focus on ball movement and possession, the Tigers still managed to get many shots on target.

The first score for the Tigers was senior Bailey Corto, who scored with 6:36 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers then added two goals in the second quarter: Thatcher early with 9:37 to go in the second period, and then junior Marie-Claire Holdren just before the end of the half.

Chagrin Falls’ Lyla Breeden scored with 9:07 left in the third quarter to make it 4-0. With 8.8 seconds left in the third quarter, Thatcher scored her second goal of the game.

After the match, Thatcher credited her teammates with putting her in position to score.

“I had a few goals, but they came from great assists,” she said. “(I have) some great teammates who saw open players, and that continued throughout the game, and we had great shots everywhere.”

With 10:38 left in the game, Ella Latore scored a goal for the Lions, making the final score 5-1.

In fact, Latore had a great week as she led the Lions with four goals, including three in NDCL’s 12-2 Senior Night win over the Padua Franciscan Bruins on May 1.

“It was our Senior Night, so it was a great game,” Latore said. “Tons of energy, tons of uplifting people with us. It was amazing.”

Also scoring for the Lions against the Bruins were Macey Beers (2), Kathryn Keefe (2), Isabella Adair (1), Isabella Call (1), Ava Downing (1), Maggie Kane (1) and Hailey Karban (1 ).
